Case Study
St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Emmaus, PA
2019 – Present
Background
Client
St. Margaret’s in Emmaus, PA is an Episcopal church named after St. Margaret of Scotland who was an English princess and Scottish queen. She was canonized for her concern with and ministry to the poor, the orphaned, the widowed, and the sick.
Challenge
The people of St. Margaret’s initially came to us looking for someone to redo their website. The person who had been volunteering to make website updates was no longer able to, and there wasn’t a tech-savvy replacement.
Their old website had been sufficient in providing information to the parish, but they wanted to add a lot more and make it an interactive place for people to learn about the church and be able to easily contact them with questions or participate in any church-sponsored events.
Solution
Logo and Branding
We began working with St. Margaret’s in the spring of 2019. The first thing we had to do to begin the website was to establish a brand. There was no official logo at the time and several different wordmarks were being used throughout printed materials and signage. Using inspiration from the outdoor sign and its Scottish influence, we created several logo options. Ultimately we choose to use the logo closest to the church sign. We also created a square/circle cropped version of the logo where the typography is stacked over the cross fleury – to use as social profiles or where needed.

Website Design
For St. Margaret’s Website design, we choose fonts to complement the logo design, colors to reflect the brand, and built out all the necessary pages. The calendar page integrates a Google calendar that is updated by St. Margaret’s.
- All pages: On the entire website, a top red notification bar points out any important news or updates. The top footer displays St. Margaret’s mission overlaid on the Scottish tartan. The lower footer includes useful links, a Facebook plugin and contact information.
- Homepage: A homepage slider showcases featured pages, welcome message from the priest, latest website posts, and a gallery of recent photos.
- About: Research and copywriting were conducted in order to build-out the About content.
- Static pages: Content was filled out with copywriting, provided images, and stock images.
- Blog Posts: Mixie Media receives blog post text and information from St. Margaret’s members and adds them to the website with provided or stock imagery.
- Calendar: It was important to have a user-friendly calendar that would show events from their Google calendar.
